    The news of the new sub-unit was released on January 3, 2012 via DSP Media. They announced the sub-unit will be a three-member group and released a teaser image on their website. The entire lineup of the sub-unit was revealed on January 4 with the release of an image with the three members.

    Rainbow Pixie debuted on January 12 with the song “Hoi Hoi” and made TV debut on the same day via Music Core.
