JYP Entertainment Profile

JYP Entertainment (abbr:JYPE) is a record label and an entertainment company in South Korea which focuses in kpop. It is one of the biggest entertainment companies in South Korea, right next to S.M. Entertainment and YG Entertainment. The name “JYP Entertainment” comes from the initials of the founder, Park JinYoung or widely known as “JYP.” Park JinYoung is also an entertainer and a kpop celebrity; with his experience in the field, he opened a business in May 1997 called TaeHong Enterprise. The once small company grew into a much successful company and became JYP Entertainment in 2001.

JYP Entertainment Company History

Park JinYoung, or JYP, debuted in a kpop group called “Park JinYoung and the New Generation” (박진영과 NG) in 1992 which failed to achieve popularity and record sales. Only after debuting as a solo artist in 1994, JYP gained much fame and popularity.

With his success, JYP went on to becoming a successful producer and business owner. “TaeHong Enterprise” was established in May 1997 and became very successful with artists like god and Park JiYoon.

In 2001, TaeHong Enterprise was renamed as “JYP Entertainment.” With the smooth transition, JYP Entertainment dished out many other artists such as Rain (Bi), Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM, Miss A and more.

JYP Entertainment went on with the success of its entertainers and branched out internationally. JYP Entertainment opened its U.S. headquarters in New York in June 2007, and China headquarters in Beijing in October 2008. It also has a branch out in Tokyo, Japan.

In December 2010, Park Jin-Young announced that J. Tune Entertainment will be merging with JYP Entertainment as it became the largest stockholder of J. Tune Entertainment.
