Boyfriend

Boyfriend is a six-member boy group under Starship Entertainment. The group debuted on May 27, 2011 on MusicBank with their debut single “Boyfriend”. The group mainly focuses on dance music and was even awarded as the “Best New Artist” by SBS. The group debuted with the “pretty boy” image, a very suiting concept for the young men in the group.
The official fan club of Boyfriend is called “Best Friends”; the fans aim to be best friends with Boyfriend.

Boyfriend History
Pre-Debut
The two members with the strongest background are Jo YoungMin and Jo KwangMin. The twin brothers debuted as child actors at an early age and was featured on many dramas and commercials. The two even trained under JYP Entertainment for two years. Kim DongHyun has a strong musical background and also did some acting jobs. No MinWoo was also an actor from an early age, as he was acting on TV as early as 2005 on the daily drama series “Pretty, You”. With four out of six members having strong entertainment background, Starship Entertainment began promoting their new boy band.
The promotion began with the revelation of No MinWoo in K.Will’s music video for “Can’t Open Up My Lips”. The MV was released on March 22, 2011 and featured No MinWoo (Boyfriend), IU and Lee Joon (MBLAQ) as cameos. The next in line who were released were the twin brothers Jo YoungMin and Jo KwangMin. The two also had previous work experience with label-mate K.Will. Boyfriend released a teaser video titled “Let’s Get It Started” on May 20, 2011 to announce their debut.
2011
Boyfriend released their debut single “Boyfriend” on May 27, 2011 with a music video. They also made their debut performance on national TV on MusicBank on the same day. The group received a decent amount of fans through their debut and began promoting their next song “You & I”. The song “You & I” gained much better reviews from music critics and provided a bit more attention from the media.
Boyfriend released the teaser video for their second single “Don’t Touch My Girl” on September 28, 2011. Although the group was off to a decent start, a catastrophic event hit the group just one day before the release of the full single: the entire single was leaked onto the internet. The files spread like wildfire and was event on YouTube before launch. The single was released on October 6. Though the group debuted with a cute, prettyboy concept, the new single had a different concept; the six men dressed up as a military-esque princes. At the end of the month on October 30, the behind-the-scenes videos were released through Starship Entertainment’s YouTube channel including “Making of ‘Don’t Touch My Girl’”.
A special single was set to release towards the end of the year. The music video for Boyfriend’s single “Pink Romance” was released on November 24, 2011. This single was a collaborated work between Boyfriend, K.Will and Sistar as a work for charity. This single worked very well as a publicity event and was used to announce their winter single set to launch on December 8th.
As announced, Boyfriend released the music video for their winter single “I’ll Be There” on December 8th. “I’ll Be There” is also Boyfriend’s third single and featured T-Ara’s former member and SPICA’s current member Yang JiWon in the MV. The title song placed second on the Gaon Digital charts.
2012
Boyfriend found a Japanese management agency named “Bing” and declared their Japanese debut in sometime in April 2012. Their debut album, “We Are Boyfriend” is set to release on June 6, 2012; the group will debut with a showcase at the Nippon Budokan on June 30, 2012.
