Psy was born as Park JaeSang (박재상) and became interested in music even during school. He attended Boston University and Berklee College of Music to further educated his musical mind. Before his debut, Psy was featured in JoPD’s “In Stardom Version 2.0″ in 1999.
Psy debuted with his first album, “PSY from the PSYcho World!” in 2001. His work was marked inappropriate for the audience and was fined. Since then, Psy has been pursuing a unique life in the music industry where he is visualized as a funny and comical musician while his music often told harsh and cold truths about life.
Psy is seen as a troublemaker especially since his first album. The other occasion that had a major impact on his image was when he was caught using marijuana during a police investigation in 2001.
He has been a troublemaker since his debut but the cake goes to the period between 2003-2007 when he had to serve in the military over and over due to complications with his medical documents.
His life changed when he was signed into the internationally-famed YG Entertainment on August 23, 2010. Since then, his music became more popular nationally and internationally. A prime example of his international success is the “Gangnam Style” track from his 6th album “PSY’s Best 6th Part 1″ which reached over 10 million views on YouTube in days.
