2022 World Cup LIVE: Qatar vs Senegal team news and lineups for key clash in Group A

Cisse – Senegal ‘will face the wall’ in must-win World Cup match against Qatar

Qatar and Senegal will go head-to-head in a crucial clash of the 2022 World Cup group stage after both teams lost their opening matches. The tournament hosts lost 2-0 to Ecuador on the first day of competition, while Senegal conceded two late goals and lost to the Netherlands by the same scoreline.

A win for either side will see them advance to the knockout rounds, but the loser of tonight’s match is out of the tournament and has one more group match to play. If Qatar were to triumph this afternoon, it would be a huge blow to the African champions who are still suffering Sadio Mane’s absence due to injury.

However, Senegal will be eager to beat Qatar and stay in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages. At least they looked worthy of a draw with the Netherlands until the late goals, while the hosts were poor from first whistle to final whistle against Ecuador.

Qatar has never beaten an African opponent, losing twice to Algeria and once to Egypt in their three tries, and missed a shot on target against Ecuador on Sunday. If they have any hope of staying in the competition, they need to drastically improve on their first performance.
