K-pop covers are not uncommon. However, it’s rare that a cover receives more hype than the original source material. Nevertheless, here are four K-pop covers that prove it is possible!
1. TXT Soobin & Oh My Girl Arin – “Dolphin”
When Soobin and Arin were named MC Music Bank, these two idols performed a cover of Oh My Girl’s song “Dolphin”. The scene was to celebrate Arin, who is a member of the group.

While Arin has charmed with her gorgeous visuals, Soobin has gone viral! His blue hair, combined with blue and white outfits, was loved by the audience. Additionally, his adorable choir choreographies became a viral Twitter fan camera.
Their cover has over 32 million views. Meanwhile, Oh My Girl’s music video for “Dolphin” has 31 million views.
2. aespa – “Dreams come true”
aespa released their cover of SES’s “Dreams Come True” in 2021. The song has been slightly changed in terms of production and choreography. “Dreams Come True” was originally released as the lead single “2021 Winter SM Town: SMCU Express” and was also featured on their mini-album “Girls”.

SES released “Dreams Come True” in 1998 and it was a huge hit. At the time of its release, “Dreams Come True” had several music show victories and is one of the most famous K-pop songs of all time.
Aespa’s music video for “Dreams Come True” has over 88 million views, while SES has 7.9 million views.
3. BLACKPINK – “So hot”
In 2017, BLACKPINK released a cover of “So Hot” entitled “So Hot (The Black Label Remix).” The song was first performed at the BLACKPINK concert in Osaka. They then covered the SBS Gayo Daejeon in 2017.

The Wonder Girls released the original version in 2008. Upon release, the single became an instant hit and reached number one on various offline and online charts. Wonder Girls have won 11 trophies on music shows thanks to “So Hot”.
BLACKPINK’s music video for “So Hot” has 83 million views. The Wonder Girls music video has 25 million views.
4. BLACKPINK Lisa – “Tomboy”
In February 2021, Lisa uploaded a video titled “FILM LILI [The Movie]”On her YouTube channel. The film featured the dance cover of Destiny Roger’s “Tomboy”. Although she doesn’t sing in the music video, it still counts as the cover art so it makes it to the list!

Destiny Rogers released “Tomboy” in February 2019. After the release, the song performed moderately. However, after the Lisa cover, the song soared to the charts and amassed millions of streams on Spotify.
The dance cover of Lisa’s “Tomboy” has over 105 million views. Destiny Rogers’ music video for this song has 68 million views.
