In 2014, when Girls’ Generation first appeared on Midnight TV Entertainment, the members revealed that they hated their group’s name when they heard it. In fact, they hated it so much that they ended up crying.
The reason was that at that time there weren’t many K-pop groups that had names in Korean, so they expected them to have an English group name like “Eternity” or “Muse”. Additionally, members found the word “generation” too mocking on their behalf.

In addition to the members of Girls ‘Generation who originally hated the name of their group as a whole, members of its first Girls’ Generation sub-unit – TTS – Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun – also hated their sub-unit name.
When they visited the “Guerrilla Date”, three members were asked if they had named their band. Tiffany declined, which naturally means it’s their agency’s idea.
Tiffany confessed that they didn’t like the name of their unit because it wasn’t the most creative name. (It is derived only from the first letters of their name.)
But TTS now likes the name and is grateful to its company for choosing it.
