Ahn Jae Wook reveals his morally ambiguous character in the new drama “Empire”

Ahn Jae Wook shared his thoughts on his character in the upcoming JTBC drama “Empire”!

Empire is a new drama set in the most prestigious legal circles in Korea. The story follows the private life and dark secrets of the overly ambitious “parenting” that rules the national legal fields.

Ahn Jae Wook will star in the drama as Na Geun Woo, a law school professor who grew up in society despite a difficult situation early in her life. Now on the verge of becoming a presidential candidate, he is married to Han Hye Ryul (Kim Sun Ah), who comes from a wealthy and influential family and is now head of the Special Branch of the Central District Prosecutor’s Office.

Describing his initial reaction to this story, Ahn Jae Wook recalled: “I found the drama to draw me naturally out of curiosity as it portrays these battles that take place outside the law, using the power that only the privileged classes possess – as well as the evil that lives today, although it should have been gotten rid of a long time ago.

“I was intrigued by the private life of” legal royalty “whose families have everything,” he continued, “and I was very attracted to the character Na Geun Woo, who subtly feels like an outsider among these families. “

Ahn Jae Wook noted that while Na Geun Woo hides the dark side under his perfect exterior, he is also someone to be considered pathetic.

“Honestly, if he takes off his mask, people can rebuke him [for his true] me, “said the actor,” but Na Geun Woo is someone who has lived his life desperately. “

“I think you can interpret the life of Na Geun Woo in several different ways,” he added.

Ahn Jae Wook also shared that he went through a lot of preparation to perfect a complex character.

“From his logical and well-structured manner of speaking to his clean appearance, Na Geun Woo is someone who wears a flawless mask,” he explained, “and I have attended countless meetings to bring this character to life.”

Finally, Ahn Jae Wook remarked: “Since this is a drama that we’ve been working hard on for a long time, I hope the audience will enjoy it. We invite everyone to the iron castle of a family belonging to a legitimate royal family, which cannot be entered by everyone.

The Empire premieres on September 24 at 10:30 PM KST and will be available with subtitles on Viki. Check out the drama trailer here!
