K-pop group BLACKPINK became the millionth seller on the day of the release of their second regular album “BORN PINK”.
According to the Hanteo Chart in real time, the album sales aggregation site “Born Pink”, released on June 16 at 1:00 pm, exceeded cumulative sales of 1 million copies at 8:14 pm on the same day after approximately 7 hours.
By 8:30 pm that same day, 592,000 copies of the boxed “Bone Pink” version, 387,000 copies of the Digipack version and 29,000 copies of the set version had been sold, for a total of more than 1 million copies.
BLACK PINK is the first girlish K-pop group to sell over a million copies on the first day of their album. Meanwhile, popular boys’ groups such as BTS and SVT sold over a million copies that same day.
Previously, pre-orders for “Born Pink” exceeded 2 million copies. BLACKPINK’s “Born Pink” album is expected to record “Double a Million Sellers” for the first time in the history of a K-pop girl group.
Cumulative sales of BLACKPINK’s first album, The Album, have sold 1.25 million copies. With this album, Blackpink became the first girly group Kpop to reach this milestone. So far, the biggest sales of the album by the girl’s K-pop band are 1.64 million copies recorded by aespa with the second mini-album “Girls” released in July.
In addition, BLACKPINK is likely to debut at number one on the American Billboard 200 album chart with Born Pink. BLACKPINK is currently the highest-rated girly K-pop group on the charts. She took second place with “The Album” released in October 2020.
On the other hand, BLACKPINK is also strong in the national charts. The title song “Shut Down” from “Born Pink” ranks fifth on Melon, Korea’s largest music platform, from 8pm on the same day.
At the same time, the music video for “Shut Down”, which reportedly had the highest production cost in YG’s history, also records an explosive number of views. At 20:00 on the same day, 7 hours after the premiere, it exceeded 23 million views.
