FIFA contacted HYBE directly to invite BTS’s Jungkook to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at all costs

Without any third party, FIFA directly invited BTS’s Jungkook to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

On November 20, BTS’s Jungkook became the first Korean artist to take the stage at the opening ceremony of the World Cup held overseas. Many people around the world questioned “Why is a K-pop superstar performing at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in the Middle East?”

Japanese media channel “The Answer” reported Jungkook’s appearance with comments from Japanese netizens claiming that “Thanks to the influence of the official sponsor of the World Cup, Hyundai Motor, Jungkook had the opportunity to perform at the opening ceremony.”

However, according to Chosun Ilbo, citing various sources, FIFA’s idea was to invite Jungkook. FIFA contacted HYBE Headquarters, HYBE US and BigHit Music, BTS label directly, without going through Hyundai Motor, about a month ago. Although FIFA didn’t reveal any specific reason, it chose Jungkook from among the BTS members from the beginning and sent him an invitation.

Critics analyzed that FIFA’s invitation to Jungkook was linked to World Cup slogans such as “multicultural‘,’diversity‘ and ‘room‘. Italian director Marco Balich, responsible for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2022 World Cup, said: “The government of Qatar asked to emphasize multiculturalism, diversity and peace at the opening ceremony.”

BTS and their ARMY fandom, who have spoken out on topics such as multiculturalism, respect for diversity and the environment, are a good fit for this.

In terms of achievements, the popularity of BTS and Jungkook also corresponds to the global music market, including North America, as well as the culture of the host country, Qatar and the Middle East.
