At least one person has died in a car accident at an Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts
Shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, a car crashed into an Apple store in the Boston suburb of Hingham, killing one person and injuring more than a dozen.
19 injured people were taken by ambulance to hospitals after a black SUV smashed the windshield and drove into a store, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said at a news conference.
Mr Cruz said the driver was a man who was in the presence of police officers after the accident. He added that at the moment he is unable to say whether there will be a prosecution, but “an active investigation is underway.”
Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said several people were pinned to the door at the back of the store. He added that the building’s structural integrity is being assessed, but that was not an issue at the time of the press briefing.
Mr Cruz said there were several 911 calls from shops in Derby Street around 10:45.
“There is a dark SUV that flew at an undetermined speed through … a glass window and hit many people,” Mr. Cruz told reporters.

Locals say accident left ‘hole’ in Apple store: ‘It sounded like a bomb went off’
Witnesses Lynne Goyuk and Emily McKenna told Boston25News about what they saw before and after the crash.
“It sounded like a bomb went off,” Ms. Goyuk said. “We’ve seen a few people who should have sought medical attention but didn’t go because they knew other people were in critical condition.”
Ms McKenna said: “I just heard glass breaking and everyone rushed to the window because they thought it was a smash and catch and there was just a hole in the middle of the Apple Store. I didn’t see a car go by, but someone said it was going pretty fast, so maybe he just lost his temper.”
