On October 28, Jin officially became the second BTS member to release a solo project since the group’s debut in 2013. He released his first single, “The Astronaut”, which includes the title song of the same name.

According to the latest Oricon Daily Singles chart (dated November 5), Jin’s The Astronaut sold a total of 104,018 copies on day one. These numbers gave the single the first place in the ranking.

Not only that, but the project made BTS Jin the first foreign male soloist to debut at number one on the Oricon Daily Singles chart with the first single from Jang Keun Suk in 2011.

Moreover, “The Astronaut” is now a Korean solo project with the highest daily sales on the Oricon Daily Singles list in history. This is an impressive feat for a single that was only released in two editions and had fewer promotions in Japan.

This achievement only shows how popular BTS Jin is in the country, even though they haven’t had solo Japanese releases in the past. In fact, the physical version of the single was: Sold Out at several Tower Records points.

Additionally, Jin’s “The Astronaut” debuted at number 43 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, while member BTS reached a new peak at number 35 on the Billboard Japan Artist 100 from November 2nd. Korean Soloist on Spotify’s Top Artist Japan List; entered at number 100.

The song “The Astronaut” also performs well on major music platforms in Japan such as Line Music and RecoChoku. It debuted at number 22 on the Line Music daily chart, and on November 2 it climbed to 15th place. It later entered the 23rd place on the Weekly Line Music chart. On RecoChok, the song debuted at the 3rd place on the daily charts and 7th on the weekly charts.

In other news, BTS Jin successfully earned his first solo entry on the UK’s official singles chart.

On November 4 local time Jin “The Astronaut” hit many of the official UK charts. He made his debut at number 61 on the official singles chart during the week of November 4-10, matching PSY’s record as the highest Korean soloist debut in history. (PSY’s hits “Gangnam Style”, “Gentleman” and “That That” were all 61st in this ranking).

With English-language songs, BTS Jin is now tied with PSY in third place in the Korean soloist’s ranking after his fellow Korean soloist Jungkook (whose song “Left and Right” was co-written by Charlie Puth, “Left and Right” 41) and BLACKPINK Rosé (whose solo debut song “On The Ground” debuted in 43rd place).

Moreover, “The Astronaut” took second place this week on both the official singles sales list and the official singles downloads list. The song joins BTS V’s “Christmas Tree” as the best-ranked Korean soloist song on the UK’s official singles sales chart.

Meanwhile, the music video for the song debuted at number 55 on the Video Streaming chart.
