Korean media recently reported the date of BTS Jin’s enlistment in the army, as well as the training center where he will be sent. Read on to find out more!

Jin’s BTS Military Enlistment Date and Training Center Revealed

On November 24, Korean news outlets including Sports Chosun reported that, according to a military source, BTS Jin would enlist in the army on December 13. He will join the 5th Infantry Division’s recruit training center in Yeoncheon, South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province.

A county far northwest of Seoul, Yeoncheon is home to a frontline unit of the Republic of Korea Army (ROK).

At the training center, the singer of “Super Tuna” will undergo five weeks of basic military training. He will then be deployed as an active-duty soldier in a frontline unit near the border of South Korea and North Korea.

In response to the news, Big Hit Music briefly told Sports Chosun, “It’s hard to confirm.”

Last week, BTS Jin revealed that he would be sent to the frontline when asked by a fan.

“Next month is your birthday. You are excited?” one ARMY asked him, and he replied, “No … I’m on the front lines.”

Jin announced his plan to enlist in the army after BTS’ concert in Busan, “2030 Busan World Expo Concert” last month. He then canceled his military service deferment right after returning to Korea from South America, where he joined Coldplay on stage to sing “The Astronaut” at a rock band concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

BTS Jin’s military enlistment was originally postponed as he submitted a deferment of military enlistment as recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism under the revised 2020 Military Service Act.

Meanwhile, BTS Jin’s latest solo release is the single “The Astronaut”, a collaboration with Coldplay.

Released on October 28, “The Astronaut” is a pop rock song featuring lyrics that reflect Jin’s attachment to ARMY. Both Jin and Coldplay contributed to the writing of the lyrics.

On the same day the album was released, it had already sold a total of 700,954 copies on the Hanteo Chart. This made Jin only the third solo artist in history to record 700,000 album sales on the first day of its release. The first two soloists to accomplish this feat are Lim Young Woong (of “IM HERO”) and EXO Baekhyun (of “Bambi”).

Jin’s “The Astronaut” then sold a total of 770,126 copies in its first week (October 28 to November 3), making the BTS member only the third solo artist in Hanteo’s history to surpass 750,000 copies in the first week of an album release (after Lim Young Woong and EXO Baekhyun).

Meanwhile, the title track “The Astronaut” topped the iTunes Song charts in at least 97 different countries – including the US, UK, France, Canada and Germany – as of October 29 at 9am KST.
