K-Media says ENHYPEN doesn’t have THAT to be called “4th generation representative group”

“ENHYPEN doesn’t have **** to be fourth generation …” A media article regretted that the group did not seem to have IT despite being one of the leading k-pop groups in the 4th generation era.

Korean media on October 30 Celebrity news wrote an article with aespa, NewJeans and ENHYPEN.

In his letter, the writer re-examined a survey conducted by the same facility in September, the purpose of which was to identify “fourth generation idols expected to be most active in the future.” The survey was conducted among 18 music and broadcasting officials, and among the girls’ groups, NewJeans and aespa were ranked as the most promising idols.

As for the boys’ groups, ENHYPEN won the majority, gaining 17 out of 18 expert votes. In a recent article, the media examined the results of the three groups after about two months.

Selected as the best fourth-generation idols, NewJeans and aespa live up to these expectations, gaining both the power and size of the fandom and mainstream popularity.

First of all, the size of the fandom can be measured by the sale of the album. NewJeans’ debut album, released in August, sold over 260,000 copies a day and set a new record as the first girl band to achieve this with their debut album.

Aespa’s second mini-album Girls fell in July, surpassing 1.12 million copies in initial sales, recording the first female singer in the history of the music industry to achieve this goal.

As for ENHYPEN, its third mini-album, MANIFESTO: DAY 1, released in July, recorded initial sales of 1.24 million copies, setting the record for the minimum annual sales of the initial million among k-pop groups.

MANIFESTO: DAY 1 tells the story of seven boys who have doubts about adult-defined success and decide to “not live as others say, but find the answers themselves”.

Although ENHYPEN proves its fandom size and strength with the album’s high sales, their performance in terms of popularity is regrettable.

If you look at musical performance, which is a measure of popularity, ENHYPEN lags behind NewJeans, which has already established its name with the hits “Attention” and “Hype Boy”. aespa also really tops the rankings with three consecutive hits: “Black Mamba”, “The Next Level” and “Savage”.

Star News claimed:

“However (ENHYPEN) there is no music source that is as popular as selling albums.”

While “Polaroid Love” has become a viral song all over the world, its popularity is not enough to be called “the representative song”.

The media explained:

“For a long time, the formulas” idol = fandom “and” idol = popularity “were obvious in the music industry. However, in order to be an idol representing a generation, one should not limit yourself to these boundaries.

… To become a true “fourth generation”, ENHYPEN needs to pay attention not only to fandom but also to popularity.
