Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative issues an official statement regarding unpaid music profits from Hook Entertainment

Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative issued an official statement regarding ongoing reports that the artist has not received any payments for music releases over the past 18 years.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Lee Seung Gi had sent a certificate of content to his agency Hook Entertainment requesting transparent disclosure of the payment. Recently, the agency’s office building was also seized and searched by the National Police Agency’s Serious Crime Investigation Division on suspicion of fraud by some directors. On November 21, Dispatch released a report which stated that Lee Seung Gi did not receive any income from his music and that statements were missing for five years from 2004 to 2009. Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon Jin Young briefly responded that they are in the process of fact-checking.

On November 24, Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative released the following statement:

Hi. This is Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative.

First of all, we apologize for disturbing many people about the issue between Lee Seung Gi and the agency. In light of the recent reports of unpaid payments for his music, we would like to express Lee Seung Gi’s position on his behalf.

As reported, Lee Seung Gi sent Hook Entertainment a certificate of content regarding an unpaid payment for his music on November 15 through a legal representative. We have asked to disclose the distribution profits of all albums in which Lee Seung Gi has participated and to settle and pay the amount he did not receive for his music.

After his debut, Lee Seung Gi carried out [music and acting] promotions while under Hook Entertainment for 18 years. In terms of his business in the entertainment industry and billing, Lee Seung Gi fully trusted and emulated Hook Entertainment. Since Hook Entertainment didn’t say a word about paying for the music, he wasn’t even aware of making money from the music, and recently found out that music is being monetized through a message accidentally sent by an employee. Later, Lee Seung Gi repeatedly asked for details of the settlement, but Hook Entertainment gave excuses that were lies, such as “You are a minus singer (meaning negative profit margin)” and avoided giving details.

During this process, Lee Seung Gi heard insulting and threatening remarks that are difficult even to utter from the CEO and others, so finally after much thought, he decided to send the content attestation through a legal representative, because he felt that it went beyond the issue itself settlement regarding payment for his music, the relationship of trust could not be continued with CEO Kwon Jin Young, as well as Hook Entertainment, whom he relied on as family, having been together for a long time.

In addition, in addition to [the issue of] Lee Seung Gi for his music, we also plan to conduct a thorough analysis of the various legal relationships between Hook Entertainment, including CEO Kwon Jin Young and Lee Seung Gi. As such, we are asking Hook Entertainment to transparently disclose sales and billing details throughout Lee Seung Gi’s entertainment business through several content certifications, and we are currently awaiting an honest response from Hook Entertainment.

Regarding this matter, we are grateful and apologize for the many people who support and take an interest in Lee Seung Gi. Lee Seung Gi will make every effort to ensure that this does not affect the projects he is working on in the future, and we will issue a separate statement after investigating the clear truth of the matter in more detail.
