A city police officer was charged with sexual activity with a minor girl, taking indecent pictures of children, and other sexual offenses against children.
Hussain Chehab, a police officer at Northern Area Primary Command, is charged with a total of 13 crimes.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said he was arrested in July 2021 and charged on Tuesday.
PC Chehab is charged with four incidents of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15, five incidents of taking indecent photos of a child, taking indecent photos of children, engaging in sexual communication with a child, distributing indecent photos of a child, and encouraging or helping to spread obscene images of children.
It is alleged that the crimes took place in 2019-2021.
He was due to report to the Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Metropolitan Police announced that its Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and that PC Chehab has been suspended from service.
Detective Superintendent Caroline Haines, responsible for the police force in the Northern Area Command Unit, said: “We recognize this news will cause concern in the community and we have been fully involved with our local partners throughout the investigation.
“The Met has announced a comprehensive revision of its standards as part of a genuine commitment to rebuild trust, but I understand that such changes undermine this work.
“We encourage anyone who has concerns about the actions of any of our officers to report them to us immediately.”
