On December 16, NCT Dream released a special winter mini-album “Candy”, which features a remake of H.O.T.’s 1996 hit “Candy”.

To celebrate the release of the album, SM Entertainment opened pop-up stores in Hongdae and Yeonhui-dong on January 20, where fans can purchase the physical version of “Candy” and other official merchandise. The product was also made available at the company’s flagship store “Kwangya@Seoul” in Seongsu-dong.

Every store began to see a line of shoppers at dawn, even in cold weather. And around 10:00 KST on the 20th, just before opening, the queues were already 200 meters long. According to NEWSIS, around 3,000 people hit the stores on the first day alone.

NEWSIS also reported that since December 20, when NCT Dream’s “Candy” was available for purchase in brick-and-mortar stores across the country, major music stores in Seoul – such as those in Gwanghwamun, Gangnam and Jamsil – attracted hundreds of fans three hours before the stores opened creating a sea of people.

Korean media further reported that some fans had pre-ordered the album through reservation, but had received notices from retailers that delivery would be delayed due to insufficient supply. This shows how quickly the album disappeared from storage.

The huge popularity of NCT Dream’s “Candy” was initially confirmed by the number of registered pre-orders. On December 19, it was announced that the EP had surpassed 2,004,000 pre-orders as of December 18, an amazing achievement for a winter special album. This means that the group will once again win the title of “two-million seller”.

Also, “Candy” topped the iTunes Album charts in at least 17 different regions around the world the day after its release. It even got an official platinum certification from QQ Music in China for raising one million yuan.

On the same day of release, “Candy” sold a total of 761,609 copies, beating the previous record of 703,700 copies set by their second full-length album “Glitch Mode” and becoming the group’s second project to sell over 700,000 copies on its first day ( after “fault mode”).
