“Shut Down” was well received but did not exceed the records set by “Pink Venom”

Looks like “Shut Down” doesn’t sound as good as BLACKPINK’s previous release, “Pink Venom”.

1:00 p.m. KST on September 16 BLACK PINK they released a music video for the title track “Shut Down” and the second full album “BORN PINK”, warming the whole K-pop industry with their big comeback. As the most anticipated comeback of this year, “Shut Down” has garnered the attention and positive feedback from music fans around the world and has made many admirable achievements.

However, fans regret that “Shut Down” feels “weaker” than the pre-release title “Pink Venom”.

In particular, the music video for “Shut Down” saw 49.9 million views and 4.7 million YouTube likes in the first 24 hours. In fact, this impressive viewership record is only half of that achieved by “Pink Venom”. Surpassing 90.4 million views, this pre-release single helped BLACKPINK become the artist with the most watched music video in the first 24 hours. The music video “Pink Venom” is also the third most watched music video in the first 24 hours on the YouTube charts.

When it comes to digital music, “Shut Down” also scored high on all Korean charts in the first 24 hours, such as # 1 Bugs, # 1 Genie, # 3 Melon and # 3 Flo. However, “Pink Venom” seemed to be doing better as it heavily dominated places 1 and 2 on the main charts in Korea. In the global music market, “Shut Down” topped the iTunes list in 45 countries, but failed to break the Pink Venom record of No. 1 at 69.

In fact, many fans indicated that “Shut Down” was more unfavorable as it was released at the same time as the full album “BORN PINK”. As audiences started paying attention to the other tracks on the b side, the title track couldn’t get all the streams it should have received if it were to be single.

In short, BLACKPINK made a spectacular comeback with the full album “BORN PINK” and set many amazing records not only in Korea but also in foreign markets. Previously, “BORN PINK” also sold over a million copies within the first day of its physical release, making BLACKPINK the first artist to do so. It also proved the great influence of the main group of YG girls.
