SM signs agreement with law firm to strengthen artists’ protection against malicious comments, sexual harassment and portrait infringement

On March 15, SM Entertainment announced that “In a recent announcement, co-founders Lee Sung Soo and Tak Young Joo announced the beginning of the “SM 3.0” era and revealed plans to strengthen protections for our artists. Therefore, they will sign a business agreement with the law firm Shin & Kim to accelerate the implementation of “SM 3.0”.

SM is closely discussing the protection of artists with the law firm Shin & Kim. With this business deal, SM will take a step further from its existing method of collecting evidence of illegal acts through existing information e-mail accounts and internal monitoring. They plan to set up a new website called “KWANGYA 119” with a reporting function and work with Shin & Kim to respond to issues.

SM has decided to respond immediately and vigorously to all forms of illegal activities, including the dissemination of false information, malicious defamation, verbal abuse, sexual harassment, invasion of privacy, and the creation of content through unauthorized synthesis or editing of artist likenesses.

In addition, SM plan to use all possible means to deal with any illegal activities related to their artists, not only in Korea but also abroad, without any leniency or settlement.
