Thanksgiving 2022 store hours update: What retailers are open on holidays?

As Thanksgiving approached, retailers had to decide whether they planned to stay open during the holiday or close their doors for the day.

In years past, it was not uncommon for large stores to greet customers on Thanksgiving or to open on Thanksgiving, hours before the official start of Black Friday.

However, the pandemic has caused a shift in practice over the last three years, with many retailers that used to be open on the last Thursday of each November now closed for the holiday.

Walmart and Target are among the retailers that have announced permanent closures over Thanksgiving.

However, that doesn’t mean closures have become the norm around the world as many retailers will remain open on November 24 this year.

Starbucks is one retailer that plans to welcome customers over the holidays, while some supermarkets such as Whole Foods will also be open this Thursday.

Most Walgreens stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 24, while 24-hour stores and pharmacies will operate as usual.

According to Walgreens, the company will resume normal business hours on Friday, November 25.

Starbucks has confirmed that most stores will be open on Thanksgiving, however the coffee shop chain has noted that hours may vary by location.

“During this holiday season, Starbucks store opening hours vary by location, and stores may occasionally adjust their hours based on business and customer needs,” the company said. “We advise customers to search for specific store hours using the Starbucks app or by visiting our online store finder.”

As for the stores that will be open on November 24, many retailers have assured customers that they will be greeted with open doors on Thanksgiving.

Unlike many supermarkets, Trader Joe’s will also be closed on Thanksgiving, according to the company’s website.

Kohl’s also confirmed on its website that its stores will not be open on Thanksgiving.
