On November 16, a press conference was held for the MAMA 2022 awards. Lead Producer (CP) Yoon Shin Hye announced that this year’s concept is “K-pop World Citizenship”, which carries the idea that one’s identity transcends geographic or political boundaries.

Yoon Shin Hye said, “It captures the meaning that in the world of K-pop we love K-pop and that we are one community connected by music and that we should unite through music. We will work hard to make a positive impact on the music it has.”

MAMA Awards 2022 will be held at Kyocera Dome, Japan over two days, November 29-30. It was revealed that the event on November 29 will focus on the Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 category subtitled The World We Create. The following day, awards in artistic and genre categories will be presented.

The two-day ceremony will also include a wide range of K-pop scenes, a K-culture encounter and a story subtitled “We Are K-pop”.

Later, CP Yoon Shin Hye named the hosts of this year’s show as Jeon Somi and actor Park Bo Gum. Jeon Somi will be the MC on the first day and Park Bo Gum on the second day.

Moreover, it has been revealed that the new trophy this year will be called the “Hyper Cube”, which is the same cube shape that the MAMA Awards have displayed for the last 21 years. The trophy will have lines at the bottom that are shaped by different rays of light to symbolize that artists and fans are interconnected and evolve endlessly. Many Hyper Cube pages illustrate dreams, passion, challenges, growth, uniqueness and expansion.

First, BTS J-Hope will perform his solo music for the first time during the MAMA Awards 2022 broadcast. CP Yoon Shin Hye stated, “Being the first BTS member to release a solo album. [J-Hope] received high praise in Korea and abroad because of its honest personal stories and developments.”
She added, “BTS’ MAMA performances have always been legendary and we’ve heard that J-Hope is rehearsing hard to re-create a performance that will go down in MAMA history.”

Besides, numerous stages of cooperation with the MAMA 2022 awards are also being prepared. On November 30, (G)I-DLE will present a joint stage with the rock band Jaurim, while 3RACHA of Stray Kids (Bang Chan, Han and Changbin) will join forces with Tiger JK and the producer the musical “Squid Game” by Jung Jae Il.

Moreover, all (32) members of the 4th generation K-pop girl groups IVE, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM, Kep1er and NewJeans will take part in a grand collaboration on the first day.

Meanwhile it was announced that DKZ has been added to the lineup of performing artists as the group is the winner of the Mnet Plus “Road to MAMA Awards” (the series finale of “Road to MAX” which gives artists the chance to perform on stage during various Mnet shows such as M Countdown, KCON and MAMA awards).
