Netflix’s “The Glory”, which depicts a revenge plan meticulously crafted by Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo), recently ended. While many viewers are happy with the ending, some are so upset about not seeing Dong Eun and the Five Villains anymore that they’re hoping for an extra season.
Perhaps because of such grief, drama fans are drawn to a recent post titled “Middle-aged version of ‘The Glory’ virtual casting” on the theqoo online community.
In the drama Moon Dong Eun (35), she returned to take revenge on school bullies after 20 years. However, in this imaginary “middle-aged version”, the revenge timeline is set to 30 years later.
An anonymous “casting director” recommended actress Lee Young Ae to play the middle-aged version of Moon Dong Eun. Because the image of the actress fits the description of Dong Eun, who calmly and carefully plans revenge. This casting decision seems to have been influenced by Lee Young Ae’s portrayal of Geum Ja in Lady Vengeance, who has been seeking revenge for 13 years.
Actress Go Hyun Jung was nominated for the role of Park Yeon Jin, the leader of a gang of bullies. Go Hyun Jung, who has a sophisticated style and urban image, played an impressive villain role in the MBC drama “Queen Seon Duk”. In “My Lawyer, Mr. Jo 2: Crime and Punishment” and “Reflection of You”, the actress perfectly portrayed the characters who are able to do anything to get what they want.
There is also an opinion that the actress Jin Seo Yeon, who played the drug addict Bo Ryeong in the movie “Believer”, could well do Lee Sa Ra. This is because there are few actresses who can properly convey the dual aspect of Lee Sa Ra, who goes to her father’s church to pray but takes drugs behind her back and has a fierce expression.
Actress Oh Na Ra was chosen by Internet users to play the role of flight attendant Choi Hye Jeong. Both Jin Jin Hee played by Oh Na Ra in JTBC’s “Castle in the Sky” and Choi Hye Jung in “The Glory” are described as cheerful and lively characters who engage in illegal activities alongside those with powers. One more thing these two characters have in common is that they are gossip informants in their environment. That’s why many drama fans believe that Oh Na Ra will perfectly digest Choi Hye Jung’s character, as she did with Jin Jin Hee.
In addition, actor Jeon No Min was mentioned as a candidate for the role of Joo Yeo Jeong, who quietly helps Dong Eun get revenge, who captivates viewers with his calm acting and low voice in every song. Actor Ji Jin Hee, who has an intellectual image, was highly recommended for the role of Park Yeon Jin’s husband, Ha Do Yeong.
In response to this virtual casting, netizens responded enthusiastically, saying “Wow, Lee Young Ae would fit the role”, “I want to hear Lee Young Ae say Dong Eun’s lines in a Geum Ja tone”, “It’s going to be an amazing job…”, “Imagining it makes me think it would be it’s a nice drama”, “I got goosebumps when someone mentioned Jin Seo Yeon”, “Go Hyun Jung is playing Park Yeon Jin?”, “Let’s make a drama like this”, “I want to see this combination of actors”, etc.
After introducing Part 1 late last year, The Glory recently released Part 2 on March 10. Written by Kim Eun Sook and directed by Ahn Gil Ho, the drama stars Song Hye Kyo, Lee Do Hyun, Lim Ji Yeon, Kim Hieora, Cha Joo Young, Jung Sung Il, Yeom Hye Ran, Jung Ji So, Shin Ye Eun, e.t.c.
By noon on March 15, “The Glory” was still number one on Netflix Korea’s “Top 10 Shows of Today” list.
