THIS is the only K-pop album on Billboard’s “50 Best Albums of 2022” list

On December 6, local time, the American music media revealed the list of the 50 best albums of 2022. The list includes “BORN PINK” BLACKPINK which ranked 42nd. It is the only K-pop album released this year to be included.

Starr Bowenbank mentioned the pressure “the world’s biggest girl group” may have felt when it came time to release their second album after 2020’s “THE ALBUM”, which earned the four of them several accolades.

“But with the mighty record label YG and trusted producer Teddy Park alongside Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé, the success of ‘BORN PINK’ has always been in the cards,” added Starr.

Bowenbank then commented that the Billboard 200-topping album was BLACKPINK “fully stepping into superstardom”, with them “…rapping with classic braggadocio (“Shut Down”, “Typa Girl”), highlighting their vocal abilities (“Hard to Love”, “The Happiest Girl”) and timeless dance hits of the genre (“Pink Venom”)”.

Starr went on to say that BLACKPINK’s “BORN PINK” was successful not only because of its unmatched balance between Korean and English, or its overall infectiousness, but also because the album showcases “idols combining the excitement of old BLACKPINK with a more mature, mature-up version of the group.” She also noted that the girls have a fanbase that “endlessly supports them.”

In 2020, their first studio album “THE ALBUM” was also named one of the best albums of 2020 by Billboard. It peaked at number 25 on the chart and was described as an album that “not only builds on the foursome’s streak of hit singles since their debut in 2016, but also serves as the perfect starting point for future Blinks to embrace the girls as they continue their meteoric rise” .

BLACKPINK ranks high on the Circle weekly charts

In other news, BLACKPINK is consistently landing on the weekly Circle charts with their latest releases.

In the week of November 20-26, their latest songs “Shut Down” and “Pink Venom” ranked No. 2 and No. 4 respectively on the global K-pop chart. “Shut Down” also peaked at number 13 on the digital chart, while “Pink Venom” is at number 15.

On the streaming chart, “Shut Down” and “Pink Venom” held their positions at 11th and 12th respectively. “Shut Down” even peaked at No. 40 on the download chart, while “Pink Venom” peaked at No. 80.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on a world tour that is said to be the biggest K-pop girl group ever. To date, it has attracted 1.5 million people, including a total audience of 200,000 from their 14 sold-out concerts in seven North American cities. The quartet also sold out 10 concerts in seven European cities.

In 2023, BLACKPINK’s “BORN PINK” world tour will head to Asia and Oceania.
