Three members of the K-pop group BTS superstars have been infected with the coronavirus after returning from overseas, their managing agency said on Sunday.
RM and Jin were diagnosed with Covid-19 on Saturday night, Big Hit Music said in a statement. Earlier, he said that another member, Suga, tested positive for the virus on Friday.
All three took their second blows in August, the agency said.
The other four members of the seven-person ban are J-Hope, Jungkook, V, and Jimin.
According to RM, he showed no particular symptoms, while Jin shows mild symptoms, including a mild fever, and is self-medicating at home.
The agency said on Friday that Suga had no symptoms and was providing self-care at home in line with health authorities’ guidelines.
RM tested negative after returning from the US earlier this month according to his personal schedule. But he was later diagnosed with the virus before he was scheduled to be released from self-quarantine, the agency said.
After returning to South Korea this month, Jin underwent PCR tests twice – on arrival and later before being released from quarantine – and tested negative on both occasions. But he had flu-like symptoms on Saturday afternoon before doing another PCR test, which turned out to be positive, the agency said. Media reports said he also traveled to the US.
The agency said that Suga, who had many personal commitments in the United States during the band’s official leave, was diagnosed with Covid during quarantine after returning from the United States.
The agency said it would continue to support the three members in their speedy recovery. He said he would be liaising with the South Korean health authorities’ conclusions and guidance.
Since their debut in 2013, BTS has gained worldwide recognition for their own music production and activism, which includes a speech at the United Nations and public incitement to anti-Asian racism. The band topped the Billboard Hot 100 list three times in 2020 and was nominated for outstanding music awards such as the Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.
