Police spokesman reports Walmart shooting
Walmart bomber Andre Bing’s phone contained a chilling “manifesto” outlining his motive for a mass shooting in Virginia that left six co-workers dead and at least four others injured before Thanksgiving.
Memorials and candlelight vigils were held in the Chesapeake area on Thursday to honor the victims.
President Biden said Thursday that the shooting, as well as the massacre at an LGTBQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs over the weekend, underscored the need to ban “sick” assault weapons with no social value.
Witnesses described how horrific events unfolded on Tuesday when Bing opened fire in the staff break room as investigators try to find a motive.
A law enforcement official told local media that Bing was “upset” about the recent change in employment status and complained of being “harassed” by co-workers. The former associate also said he was paranoid that the government was watching him and did not like being recorded. One witness claims to have seen him target certain individuals during the attack.
There have been 609 mass shootings this year
The Chesapeake shooting was another mass killing in America’s gun violence epidemic.
According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 609 mass homicides in the United States this year, part of the country’s total of 39,843 gun-related deaths.

Chesapeake survivors tell of horrific moments from the shootout
Survivors of the November 22 shooting at Virginia Walmart that killed six people have begun to share their experiences.
Donya Prioleau said she was in the staff break room when the shots rang out.
“Half of us didn’t believe it was true until some of us saw all the blood on the floor,” she added.
Another co-worker, Jessie Wilczewski, told the network that she could have escaped the shots, but chose to stay in the store because her colleagues were experiencing their final moments.
“I could have run out that door… and I stayed. I stayed so they wouldn’t be alone,” she said.

A statue rises outside the Chesapeake Walmart after a mass shooting
Mourners and community members built a memorial outside of Chesapeake, Virginia, a Walmart where six people were killed in Tuesday’s shooting.
Flowers and balloons were laid in memory of the victims: Brian Pendleton, Kellie Pyle, Lorenzo Gamble, Randy Blevins, Tyneka Johnson and a 16-year-old boy whose name has been withheld.
“It was important for us to go out and remember,” said a member of the WAVY community. “It was important to remember the lives lost and all those affected by the tragedy. It breaks my heart to think of all the staff having to go back and realize what happened here. All who are in the hospital, more families, it’s very tragic.”

An in-depth look at the reasons behind the Chesapeake Walmart shooting
Police said they found a sort of “manifesto” on Andre Bing’s mobile phone in which he complained about unspecified changes in his employment status and what he called being harassed by other employees in connection with it. One report says that near his body, police found a list of employees he planned to attack.
As America celebrated Thanksgiving, police in Chesapeake, Virginia were looking for clues about the Walmart mass shooting, an incident whose horror reverberated across the country, another harrowing mass shooting took place in the most mundane of places.
In Nantucket, Massachusetts, vacationing Joe Biden was asked about the incident and promised to take action to control the sale of semi-automatic firearms.
“The idea that we’re not enforcing red flag laws … is absurd,” he said. “The idea that we still allow the purchase of semi-automatic firearms is sick. Only sick. There is no social redemptive value. Zero. Thread. Not a single justification, except for profit for the arms manufacturers.”
