When is Royal Mail on strike? Every date in November and December 2022

Royal Mail staff will stage strikes this month and next in escalating arguments over pay, jobs and conditions.

The Communications Workers Union (CWU) officially notified the Royal Mail of the November strikes last month and confirmed six new dates for the December strike on 17 November.

The Post Office apologized to customers, saying that while it had “well-developed contingency plans”, it could not “fully replace the daily efforts of our frontline staff”.

“We will do everything in our power to keep services running, but we are sorry that the planned strike action may cause some disruption,” the company wrote on its website.

Why are Royal Mail workers on strike?

Postal workers are on strike over a long-standing and deepening dispute over pay and working conditions.

CWU general secretary Dave Ward previously said: “MPs are fighting for their lives with the uberisation of Royal Mail and the destruction of their conditions.

“But our 115,000 members will not only accept this war with their livelihoods and industry.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “On Monday 31 October, Royal Mail offered CWU a new payment offer for a change of nine per cent over two years, despite a loss of £219m in the first half of the year.

“CWU spoke to us at Acas and says they are open to change, but now they need to show it.

“Instead, CWU has announced four days of strike action, which will further damage our business during the busiest time of the year.

“We call on CWU to withdraw these strikes for the benefit of our customers and our employees.

What do strikes mean for deliveries?

During the days of the strike, Royal Mail said disruption was likely and that staff would not deliver letters except those sent by Special Mail, but could not guarantee they would arrive.

Priority will also be given to the supply of Covid test kits and medical prescriptions where possible.

Will this affect the Christmas post?

Royal Mail has neither confirmed nor denied whether the Christmas Post will be affected by the strike action, but it is likely given that there are six new strike days in the run-up to December 25.

He urged customers to ship items as early as possible before the strike dates to avoid disruption.

For deliveries within the UK, the latest delivery dates before Christmas are:

Monday 19 December for Second Class, Signed Second Class and Royal Mail 48 services

Wednesday 21 December for First Class, First Class signed, Royal Mail 24 and Royal Mail tracked 48.
