World Cup 2022 LIVE: Denmark vs Tunisia latest score, goals and updates from Group D match – Christian Eriksen returns emotionally

World Cup: Daily Update from Day 2 in Qatar

Denmark and Tunisia will face off today in Group D of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Last summer, Denmark had a thrilling run to the Euro semi-finals, somehow absorbing the shock of Christian Eriksen’s group stage cardiac arrest and recording one of their best performances at a major tournament. Now, almost 18 months later, at the World Championships in Qatar, Kasper Hjulmand’s team will be looking to repeat this remarkable effort.

To begin with, the Danes will face Tunisia in Group D, who will likely compete with Denmark for second place in this group. Elsewhere in the group, France are keen to avoid the recent curse of the defending champions missing out on the next edition of the World Cup in the group stage, and their talented side are set to do just that and qualify first here. With Australia not keen to do much in Qatar, the match between Denmark and Tunisia could be the deciding factor in Group D.

The winner could just set themselves up for the knockout stage at the expense of the other team, and a draw would be an interesting group dynamic ahead of the next two matchdays.

Argentina 1-2 vs Saudi Arabia match report:

Miguel Delaney at the iconic Lusail Stadium:

A moment of authenticity in this tournament, but one that seemed to defy reality.

This World Cup had its first classic shock and perhaps one of the greatest of all. Completely stunned, Argentina lost for the first time in 36 matches to extremely adventurous Saudi Arabia, fueled by a raucous atmosphere. Manager Herve Renard accomplished another amazing feat.

The fact that they came from behind and won 2-1 only underlined their spirit and determination and showed that even the most problematic World Cup is still driven by human sporting qualities. This is what Qatar is trying to buy.

An added irony is what their complicated political rivals in Saudi Arabia will now be using. What a venue for their biggest ever World Cup victory, at the home stadium shortly after the Gulf lockdown was lifted. And yet however you use it, it was a classic sporting story of footballers rising to the next level, driven by the fans.
